Philoptochos

The word "Philoptochos" is Greek for "friend of the poor." Organized under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, the St. Nicholas Ladies Philoptochos Society is a local chapter of a broader national not-for-profit organization. Our primary mission is to assist those in need and to support our church and local communities.

One of the ways we fulfill our charge is by supporting other charities through donations. Last year, our organization made a meaningful difference by contributing to an orphanage in Guatemala, St. Basil Academy (a home for children in need), St. Michael's Quality Care for the Elderly, the Ronald McDonald House and other organizations that assist people who are poor, homeless or disadvantaged.

We build bridges and extend those bridges to reach far away places. We organize fundraisers and sponsor innovative events to raise much needed money so that we can help others. Charity, after all, begins in small places, through churches and communities, and our members share in the beauty of hard work, humility and hospitality. Currently, there are 14 board members and almost 100 members who assist with luncheons, fundraisers, coffee hours at the church, special church functions, Christmas and other holiday receptions, including Easter egg hunts, bake sales, and other activities.

With the help and support of our parishioners and local communities, we continue to achieve our goals. With your support, we make a meaningful difference.

If you would like to build bridges with us by becoming a member in our organization, or if you would like to make a contribution, please contact Tina Paraskevas Felix at tinafelix@msn.com. Help us to continue making a meaningful difference.

Thank you for your support.
